Community Based Law Awareness Program

Community Based Law Awareness Program

On 2082-03-29, the hall of Shree Tripureshwor Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Birendranagar-1, Surkhet, Karnali Province, Nepal, filled with the lively energy of 60 enthusiastic Grade 10 students as The Lead Nepal brought the Law Awareness Program to their school. The session began with warm introductions from the school and class captains, setting a tone of pride and leadership. Before diving into the nation’s legal framework, we invited the students to create their own mini-constitution for the two-hour workshop – a set of rules they agreed upon together to ensure fairness, respect, and active participation. In that moment, they didn’t just learn about democracy; they experienced it first-hand, understanding that laws are built on mutual respect and collective responsibility.

As the discussion unfolded, the idea of “law” shifted from something distant to something deeply personal. The Constitution came alive as more than a government document – it became a shared promise of rights and freedoms, from education and equality to safety and dignity. Students began to recognize that the law isn’t just for lawyers or officials; it shapes the way they study, travel, speak, and even dream. Through real-life examples, we showed how a young girl used the law to stop child marriage, how a boy defended his friend from school bullying by invoking his right to safety, and how a young worker fought for and received fair wages under labour laws. These stories didn’t come from faraway lands; they were rooted in Nepal, proving that legal knowledge can be a powerful tool for change in anyone’s hands.

By the end of the program, the transformation was clear. One student summed it up perfectly: “Before today, I thought the law was just about punishment. Now I see it’s about protection.” For The Lead Nepal, this is the heart of  our mission – to plant the seeds of awareness and empowerment early, so these young people grow into active citizens who stand for justice, protect rights, and shape a fairer society. The law does not belong only in courtrooms; it belongs in the minds and actions of everyday people, starting with our youth.
