In collaboration with Ward No. 3, The Lead Nepal just wrapped off a month-long program on Advance Tailoring Training under Teaching for Learning Project. The program’s goal was to give women advanced tailoring abilities so they would feel more empowered. The workshop was designed to help 40 women from different communities of Ward No. 3 who have already completed 3-months long Basic Tailing become more proficient at tailoring skills. The training was run from 22nd February 2024 to 27th March 2024.
Importance:
The program such as tailoring provides women with advanced tailoring skills, which opens doors to economic prospects, allowing participants to start their own enterprises, find work, and contribute to household income. Furthermore, the program encourages skill development, community building, and gender equality. As women attain financial independence, they are better positioned to invest in their families’ education and healthcare, resulting in better outcomes for next generations. Furthermore, by questioning traditional gender stereotypes and empowering women to participate fully in the profession, the program helps to gradually shift cultural attitudes toward gender equality. Thus, the Advance Tailoring Training Program not only improves the lives of individual participants, but it also promotes broader socioeconomic development and community empowerment.
Program Objectives:
The objectives of the Advance Tailoring Training Program are:
- Empower women with advanced tailoring skills that would enable them to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities or secure employment in the Tailoring market.
- Enhance the participants’ expertise in stitching, pattern-making, and clothes making.
- Open doors for women to be financially independent.
Impact:
The program had a significant impact on the participants, both personally and economically. Many of the women expressed newfound confidence in their abilities to create high-quality clothes. Additionally, some participants have already started small businesses or secured employment in local tailoring shops, thereby improving their financial situations. The training not only enhanced their technical skills but also instilled a sense of self-reliance and empowerment.
Learning Experience:
Throughout the one-month training program, participants engaged in hands-on learning experiences facilitated by skilled instructors. The curriculum covered a wide range of advance design like : tops, pant, School Skirt, Pant, Designer Blouse, Cholo, Umberalla Mexi, Plazo, One peace dress, Fer- Round Kurta etc. including advanced stitching techniques, pattern drafting, and garment finishing. Practical exercises and demonstrations allowed participants to apply their newly acquired skills in real-life scenarios, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
Conclusion:
One-month long Advance Tailoring Training Program organized by The Lead Nepal in collaboration with Ward No. 3, Birendranagar Municipality, Surkhet has been a resounding success. By equipping women with advanced tailoring skills, the program has empowered them to pursue economic opportunities and gain financial independence. The impact of this training extends beyond the individual participants, contributing to the socio-economic development of the entire community. Moving forward, initiatives like this are essential for fostering gender equality and empowering women in Nepal.
